Summer is peach season in South Carolina. The state is number two in the country for peach production and the leading peach producer in the southeast. In the Upstate region, there are a number of peach farmers selling directly to the public. Here are some popular places where you can find delicious, fresh peaches.
Abbott Farms, a family business, has been selling handpicked, tree-ripened peaches in the Upstate for over 50 years. They also sell watermelons, melons, peanuts, jams, salsa and fruit must. There are six favorable locations in the region. The Spartanburg site is located at junction 22 off I-26. In Cowpens there are two locations, at exit 83 northbound and south on I-85. The Gaffney Store is located off I-85, Exit 92, and Boiling Springs Store off I-85, Exit 75. The newest location is Florence, South Carolina, off I-95, Exit 157. Summer Time are Monday to Saturday from 7 to 20 o'clock.
Perdeaux Fruit Farm sells peaches, nectarines, plums, apples, blackberries and raspberries. They also stock a selection of locally grown vegetables, preserves, honey, apple butter and cider. The retail location is located north of Greenville at 2400 Hwy 11 at Traveler's Rest. Opening hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 5:30 pm and Sunday from 12:30 pm to 6pm.
Strawberry USA is a family run farm on 3097 Hwy 11 in Chesnee. There is also a retail location off I-85 at Exit 90 in Gaffney. They offer handpicked strawberries in the spring and peaches and blackberries in the summer. Bread, salsa, honey, preserves and fruit must are also available. The on-site cafe serves breakfast and lunch. Every place also has an ice cream parlor. The opening hours are daily from 8 to 20 o'clock.
The Peach Tree Orchards on Filbert Highway 2077 in York sell 25 peach varieties from June to September. Buyers can buy fruit at their roadside shop or pick their own yellow or white peaches from natural stones. Jams, jellies and salsa are also available. The ice cream parlor serves sundaes, poses and shakes. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 8 to 18 o'clock and Sunday from 13 to 18 o'clock.
The Spring Farm Peach booth is located at 1325 Hwy 160W in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Their smaller farm market location is about three miles away on Springfield Pkwy. They sell peaches, nectarines, strawberries and blackberries in season. They also stock other locally grown produce, honey, barbecue sauce and dressings. Shoppers can enjoy a snack at the on-site restaurant, bakery or ice cream parlor. The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 6 to 21 o'clock, Saturday from 8 to 21 o'clock and Sunday from 8 to 20 o'clock.
